This Voter’s List for 1886 covers the electoral district No. 8 in the County of Antigonish. Located approximately 14 – 20 miles East of the Town of Antigonish it encompasses the districts of Tracadie, Afton, Bayfield, Merland, Big Tracadie and more. At the time it was the most ethnically diverse area of the County hosting the main encampment of the Mi’kmaq people, a large Acadian population, a Black community, Irish and Loyalist settlements, as well as Belgian monks and a few Highland Scots.

The Antigonish Heritage Museum holds a near complete 1886 Voters List for the County of Antigonish. District # 13 is incomplete; it covers the West end of the Town of Antigonish including Brierly Brook, West River, Salt Springs, and Addington Forks.
