The Welsford-Parker Monument, also known as the Sebastopol Monument, in the Old Burying Ground, was unveiled in 1860. It is the second oldest war monument in Canada and the only monument to the Crimean War (1853-56) in North America.
It commemorates two Nova Scotians who died during the Siege of Sevastopol. Although no Canadian military regiments participated in the Crimean war, it was significant step for Nova Scotians who wanted to volunteer to fight overseas.
