Salmon River House, Salmon River

This community is located near Head Jeddore and is named for the bridge that crosses the Jeddore Harbour, an fjord-like inlet known as Salmon River. Salmon River House is shown on the left. Cora (Harpell) and Alexander 'Sandy' Myers bought the Salmon River House from Eliza Warnell in 1920 and established an inn there. Sandy and Cora operated the inn for over 50 years, growing the establishment into a very successful business. Additions to the main house were made, featuring six guest rooms and a dining room, a two-room cottage and a four-room "annex". It has seen numerous changes and owners since then, but continues to be a stopping place for food and rest. On the right of this photograph is a flat roofed store possibly run by Hollingsworth & Whitney (a lumber company) in the early days and then later owned by P. H.Weary of Musquodoboit Harbour (operated on his behalf by Harry Colbert). The store was there in the late 1940s and may have stopped operation in the 1950s.
