Mr. Léo Melanson and his wife Marguerite. Although he could neither read nor write, Mr. Melanson was considered a genius at the construction of wooden buildings having previously constructed the main building of College Sainte-Anne in 1899 and Mont Carmel church in Concession in 1902. His abilities were further demonstrated by the fact that he was able to build Saint Mary’s Church out of wood by converting the plans which had been drawn for a stone structure and with no other comparable wooden structure in North America to use for reference.
