Physical Training Qualification

Dorothy Janetta Gates was born September 5, 1906 in Nictaux, Annapolis County. She attended The Provincial Normal College (a school dedicated to the training of high school graduates to be teachers) in Truro NS. She received a “B” grade in Physical Training, which presumably means that she is qualified to teach physical education. It is believed that the military was connected with the physical training, as a Military District 6 Cadet Officer signed as the “Examination Officer”. Perhaps she would have been able to train recruits, more likely she would have been teaching at a regular school. Later she married Kenneth Green (a clerk born in Massachusetts) and became a stenographer.
