Allan Mac Lean, note the US army uniform. He, along with his two brothers and many young men, left Cape Breton to work in the Boston area of the US. Around the early 1915's , often it was because other relatives were there already. Then they enlisted or were conscripted to the army.
The war ended in 1918, just as Allan's training was over, so he never went overseas, but got a military pension later of which he was so proud! He then returned to C. B. as many others did, though some became American citizens. He married, and continued his life as a skilled carpenter and farmer. He died at Lake Ainslie, at 94 in 1990.
