Tradition bearer Neil James MacNeil -Nìll Sheumais, Sheumais, Iain, Aladsair Mhóir. Family and connections are a part of everyday life in the Gaelic world. Knowing who your ancestors are gives a connection to the past that enables us to look to the future. Discussions around the fire and in the kitchen invariably turned to talk of whose father was whose and how various families were related. Neil James could be counted on to share his knowledge with local people and descendants of local families alike. Genealogy is an important part of the life of Gaelic speakers.
