Each year the town of Digby hosts the Scallop Days Festival. This well-known celebration has been held since 1975 as a means to promote scallops and the effect of the scallop fishing industry in the area. Launched as a small, one day affair, the event has grown to spread over several days. The focus has always been on family fun, and acts as a main attraction for tourists. Local girls compete in a pageant style contest where the winner is crowned as Scallop Days Queen. Spectators are invited to meet the princesses, watch the Grand Street Parade, and take part in competitions and games.
