Parker-Eakins Co. was founded in 1874 by Arthur White Eakins and Edward F. Parker. The company remained true to the code of merchant mariners, and had a mission to “facilitate the production, distribution and exchange of goods and services for mutual profit and advantage”. With a fleet of trading vessels, Parker-Eakins & Co. carried lumber, fish and farm produce to the West Indies as well as bringing back sugar, molasses and rum. Company owned vessels carried a variety of Nova Scotia products including lumber and potatoes to places such as Great Britain. This company shows again the importance of shipping to Yarmouth’s economy.
