John Rory MacNeil and Seumas Watson

Tradition bearers John Rory MacNeil - Iain Ruairidh, Mhìcheil, Steabhain, Ruairidh, `ic DhòmhnaillÒig, & Seumas Watson. John Rory was known as an exceptional Gaelic singer being much in demand at local milling frolics and céilidhs. John Rory was also known for his scalpel wit and a concise historical memory. His great grandfather “Dòmhnall Òg,” a Barra man, fell with Wolfe on the Plains of Abraham. He vividly recalled a time when life was seasonal and tempered by Gaelic custom. Seumas Watson, Manager of Interpretation at Baille nan Gàidheal, is a fluent Gaelic speaker. A long-time advocate and ethnographer dedicated to our Maritime region’s Scottish Gaelic traditions and tremendous tradition-bearer in his own right, he is known for his knowledge and love of Gaelic stories, language and song.
