After her parents’ death in the 1930s, Maud moved from her home town of South Ohio in Yarmouth County, to live with her aunt in Digby. It was here that she met and married Everett Lewis. She then moved into his one room house in Marshalltown, Digby County, where she resided until her death on July 30th, 1970. During her life, she loved to paint, but never considered herself an artist. After her death; however, she became a well-known, internationally acclaimed folk artist.
