On Monday, February 13th, 1899, much of Water Street, Digby was on fire. According to the Digby Courier, there was also a northeast gale and blinding snowstorm that was one of the worst in Digby’s history. To make matters worse, a Dominion Atlantic Railway train was stuck in front of the fire station, restricting access to the fire. Many of Digby’s businesses and buildings on Water Street were destroyed.
