Inhabitants of this River, whereupon the Same being Read, he Asked the Oppinion of the Board Then [86] Then he Laid before the Board a Petition from the English Inhabitants of the Lower Town, which being Read, And the Board Considering the great Disadvantage and Impedim.ts that the Empty Uninhabited houses in the Said Lower Town are to those Inhabitants who would Remain & Live in their houses, being for want of the Absent Proprietors due Care become Untennantable & gone to Decay and Ruine; And that Whereas they may Serve as a Shelter & Defence to the Lurking Enemy Indians who may at Pleasure Sett them on .fire and Consequently the whole Town to the Great loss and prejudice of the other Proprietors and Inhabitants of Said Town

Resolved That it is for his Majestys Service and the Good of this Collony, that the Said Lower Town be preserved and Inhabited; That Such Empty houses be Aprized and pulld Down, & that the Proprietors of Said houses may not be Intire Loosers thereby

It is allso the Oppinion of the Board that they have part of the Vacant Lands in the Said Town in Lieu of the Same, when they are allotted out

Then the Board Resolved that An Answer Should be given to the. french Inhabitants Memo.l on Munday Next, And that Major Paul Mascarene and John Adams Esq prepare the Same
